Cockshutt 50

Last Updated: July 2024

Overview

The Cockshutt 50 is a versatile tractor powered by a Buda 4.5L 6-cylinder gasoline and diesel engine with a displacement of 273 cubic inches, bore and stroke of 3.75 and 4.125 inches respectively, and a rated RPM of 1650. The gasoline model has a compression ratio of 6.6:1, while the diesel model has a compression ratio of 14.3:1. The engine produces a maximum power of 40.75 HP (30.39 kW) at 1650 rpm with a fuel consumption of 3.27 Gal/hr (12.38 l/h) and fuel efficiency of 0.541 lb/hp.hr (0.329 kg/kW.h). The tractor uses an unsynchronized gear transmission with 6 forward gears and 2 reverse gears. At rated engine speed, it delivers a drawbar power of 34.96 HP (26.06 kW) with a drawbar pull of 3650 lbs (16.24 kN) at a speed of 3.31 mph (5.33 km/h) and a fuel consumption of 0.641 lb/hp.hr (0.390 kg/kW.h) with a fuel efficiency of 10.54 Hp.hr/gal (2.08 kW.h/l). The engine produces a maximum torque of 185 lb.-ft. (251 Nm) at 1399 rpm with a torque rise of 25.8%. The hydraulic system has a pump delivery rate of 10.5 GPM (39.75 l/min) at minimum pressure and rated engine speed, delivering a hydraulic power of 21.0 HP (15.8 kW) at 1270 psi (88 bar) delivery pressure. At the standard PTO speed of 540 rpm, the tractor has a fuel efficiency of 9.85 Hp.hr/gal (1.94 kW.h/l) with a fuel consumption of 3.10 Gal/hr (11.74 l/h). With a comfortable length of 132 inches and height of 79.5 inches, it has an operational weight of around 6041 lbs and comes with agricultural tires. Detailed performance metrics and specifications were obtained from independent testing conducted by the University of Nebraska - Lincoln Tractor Test Lab on October 29, 1952.
